In the centre of Warsaw two luxurious hotels were built recently. First of them is Intercontinental at Emilii Plater street and the second one is Westin, at the crossing of Grzybowska street and Aleja Jana Pawła II (John Paul II Avenue). The building is 120 metres high and has 25 floors. The cost of that investment was approximately 79.5 million euros. Its contractors were companies Skanska Polska and Portman Holding. The hotel was opened in September 2003. Westin is the next part of Atrium - the complex of buildings that fill all western side of John Paul II Avenue starting from the intersection with Elektoralna street and is becoming a kind of determinant of development of this part of city. The form and colours of new hotel are similar to other buildings of Atrium complex.
There are 366 rooms in Westin Hotel. Their interior refer to the style of 1960s. But off course not to socialistic style, only to western style from that period.
An element that differs Westin from other skyscraper is its elevation, made of granite. Thanks to it the building looks very elegantly. Its special attraction is a "tube" located on the front side of the building with panoramic elevators. They ride at speed of 3.5 m/s and there is a great view from them. But unfortunately only hotel's guests and staff are able to use it, a special magnetic card is needed for that.
More information about Westin Hotel can be found on its official website: http://www.westin.pl/en/hotel.php.
